Yes I stayed there in 2002. Fantastic place although it was part package holiday. I was greeted by a large Saga welcome sign as I walked in!!

My one bed apartment was located on the side of the building and the balcony was in the shade. However, it was very well appointed and a nice size.

As I recall, there were several pools and the pool attendant greeted me every day with a pool towel and found me a lovely comfortable lounger with mattress wherever I wanted.

The only downside to this resort is that that is located at the far end of the hotel area of Funchal. I did walk into Funchal once (can't remember how long it took me and I got a taxi back) so it was good to have a hire car.

Hope this helps.

thanks Gail
Personally we are quite happy if Saga use it as it suggests that it will be quiter and few children, so not disapointed with that. I bet its also costing them a lot more!!
Glad to hear no bad comments.
Never been to Madeira before so have lots to look forward to.

I'm staying there in April, and really looking forward to it.

I've been to Madeira once before and stayed in the Pestana Miramar, which was very nice. I did walk out as far as the Pestana Grand, which is near to the regency palace. It takes about an hour from the centre of funchal to walk it. I understand that the regency palace does provide a shuttle bus however, so that should help for days when we're a bit tired!

It's a beautiful Island, I've been dying to come back ever since I was there. Despite it being a popular destination, it doesn't feel like blackpool in the sun in the same way that many places do.

When I return from the regency palace i'll try to post some photos and thoughts here if it helps!

Hi
Have just got back from hols in Caribbean and picked up your post. While we were away we saw the news of horrific weather in Madeira - hope you did not get caught up in it!
We would love to see your pics and any other info on your holiday when you get back.
