Pearly Grey - Terrify

Postby Jeff Dean » Mon 23 Jan, 2006 11:44 am

About two years ago I had the misfortune of staying at the Pearly Grey in Callao Salvajo, Tenerife. It was so bad I received a full credit of the timeshare I used. At that time it was a Resort of Distinction (RID) and I felt that was over-deserved (grammar?).
I now notice that it is rated a Gold Crown!
Does anyone know what has changed there?
If they have refurbished everything it may now be a nice place to stay if only for its location.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Regards
Jeff Dean

Pearly Grey

Postby swemson » Thu 25 May, 2006 10:38 am

Stayed their last year (august 2005), the first week in a std unit, the second in the new refurbised/upgraded 'S'
apartments. The first apartment was fine, the second excellent. Neither of these were in the main building, both were on the pool side, the second had a large balcony overlooking the ocean. The resort facilities were ok, including a well equipped gym.

We stayed here 13/10/06 till 20/10/06. Lovely 2 bed/2 bath apartment, very spacious and well fitted out - couldn't have been closer to the sea. Cleanliness was spot on throughout the resort. All the staff were extremely friendly and the resort is run by the owners. We were made to feel very welcome and had a fantastic week.

We took the option of halfboard breakfast which was a great decision as they only charged us for 1 of the children (instead of all 3) and meant that we all have a full cooked breakfast every morning which set us up for the day. We ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was great. For self catering - the little shop opposite was very comprehensive plus there was a large Mercadona supermarket 5 mins drive away at Adeje.

Entertainment good but was a little late. It was billed to start at 10 but most nights started after 10:30. There was not much for the kids to do early evening so they tended to play havoc in the playground which caused some problems on a couple of evenings. I felt this could have been avoided with a little disco and the main entertainment starting at 9.

There is no beach at the resort but the beaches at Del Duque, Fanabe and Playa de las Americas are only a short drive away.

In summary, a great holiday and a great resort which deserves its Gold Crown status in my opinion.

We have stayed there 3 times. Twice in the S front facing apartments, and once in the main block. Enjoyed it, nice warm pool, good bar area, entertainment OK. Alot of the same people go every year, would Def go again.
Best to get a taxis and do a big shop at the Merconda only about 5-6 Min's away. A quiet location, but we only wanted a nice resort, sun, and a warm pool. Buses available at top of road.
If anyone wants to know a/thing, please feel free to Pm me.
