Vacation January 2009

Postby jebuen » Sat 08 Nov, 2008 2:50 am

Hello, I am glad to have found this website. Newly member of RCI and we will be using our points for the first time and would like help finding a Gold Crown location. Our month of vacation is restricted to January so I'm thinking somewhere in the Carribean or Mexico? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thx. Jess

Have a look on the RCI website under Points. All the resorts tell you what are Gold or Silver Crown.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Gold Crown status. I try to get a feel for each resort by reading the Resort Reviews that are now available, by visiting the Resort's own websites and by having a look on Trip Adviser or similar websites.

We have visited many differently rated resorts and our all time favourite, in Florida, is sometimes Silver Crown and sometimes nothing.

Enjoy your points.

Hi
I agree, and often question why a resort is gold crown rated when it is so poor while a silver crown resort, or lower! is often so much better.
I think a lot of it is your personal requirements and knowing what you want from a holiday. I know what will make my family happy and look for those on-site facilities. I also know that we dont like large hotel style resorts with casino etc so avoid them. It is qiute time consuming but I have found it worthwhile making a shortlist of the resorts that appeal to me , then I am at the ready, not wasting time doing last minute research, when I get something offered by a phone consultant. I go to the Caribbean every year and have enjoyed all my holidays.
There are quiet resorts and busier resorts in most places - see resort reports. Again, take the reports with a broad view as these will reflect the writers expectations of their holiday. I know In the past I have reread a report i have written, in haste, on return from hols, and thought that maybe it was a bit harsh.
Good luck, dont hesitate to make contact if you want more info on caribbean.

Guess you may be away now.
We are looking in having a winter break in the Caribbean and would be interested to know how you found the weather and water temperature at that time of year. Thanks
