The only reason to tell the resort is to find out how to transfer the ownership.
Have a look at your ownership document. Some of these have a simple form on the back which both seller and purchaser complete and the send off to the Management Company/Resort with the appropriate fee.
Others are more complicated involving shares or, in the case of US resorts, formal deeds which need solicitors.
I have sold a couple of weeks on ebay. I contacted the resorts to find out the up to date cost of transfer. I also contacted the 'deeded' resort to advise about the transfer as that took some time. The 'certificate' transfer were never told.
